EIRA grew out of a question from inland schools: how can village teachers get the same training opportunities as their colleagues on the coast? The answer was an Erasmus+ consortium accreditation, coordinated by Buinho, with seven school clusters in the Beja district and a teacher training centre. For several of these schools it was their first Erasmus+ participation.
Since 2022 the consortium has received a mobility project every year. Teachers and school staff take part in structured courses and job shadowing at European schools and centres, and the consortium invites foreign experts to work in the Beja district schools. The focus is on digital and creative skills — robotics, digital fabrication, maker culture — and on responding to climate change.
The mobility plan is decided with the school directors, based on each school's priorities. Teachers bring new teaching practices back to their schools and share them with colleagues in their cluster.
