Transição

Repair, reuse, regenerate — and the projects Buinho runs with schools, communities, artists and FabLabs across Europe.

Transition is Buinho's area for sustainability, regeneration and community resilience.

Repairing instead of throwing away, turning waste into materials, experimenting with biomaterials and caring for the territory's resources — with the people of the region, from schools to seniors in the villages, and with partners from across Europe.

Repair

Repair Cafés with Resialentejo across its eight municipalities, with senior volunteers repairing alongside participants — Alentejo Repair Community received the Best Volunteering Project Award 2024.

In Europe, we brought repair communities from cities to rural areas (WeRepair), worked on the right to repair and citizen participation (RE-POWER) and set up rural eco-clubs for adults (RECA). In ABRI, repair reaches sewing, with the Messejana club.

Circular economy

The Precious Plastic lab turns plastic waste into sheets, parts and objects. With young people from seven countries, the Precious Plastic project brought community recycling and digital fabrication together in Messejana and received the Erasmus+ Good Practice label.

Labs

Biomaterials and food

Mycelium, food waste and local fibres as raw material: in Materia Viva, young people from Corsica and Alentejo turn food waste into materials and products for the community; SUBSTRACTO takes biomaterials from the lab to the artist residency and the territory.

In Future Food Labs, food cultures and green goals became future-oriented learning activities.

Water and territory

In a territory short of water, technology can also help care for it. In Gota d'Água, young people from Mediterranean regions built sensors and smart irrigation systems in Castro Verde — Erasmus+ Good Practice label.
